India's Labour Force Stats May 2025: Unemployment Rises

India’s Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) dropped to 54.8% in May 2025, with rural rates at 56.9% and urban at 50.4%. Unemployment rose to 5.6%.

  • Female LFPR in rural areas was 36.9%, lower than males’ 78.3% in rural regions.
  • Worker Population Ratio (WPR) fell to 51.7% nationally, with females at 31.3%.
  • Male unemployment rate matched 5.6%, while female unemployment rose to 5.8%.
