RBI Issues New AIF Investment Rules

RBI released AIF Directions 2025, capping RE investments and setting strict norms on provisioning and capital deductions.

  • Directions apply from Jan 1, 2026, to all REs investing in Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) schemes.
  • REs can't invest over 10% individually or 20% collectively in any AIF scheme's corpus.
  • 100% provisioning required if RE holds over 5% in AIF investing in its own debtor, excluding equity exposure.
