RBI revises NBFC risk weight norms

  Published 7 months ago

RBI’s draft NBFC (SBR) Amendment Directions, 2025, redefine risk weights for infrastructure exposures, introducing “high-quality” project classifications with repayment-linked weight criteria.

  • High-quality infrastructure projects must show one year of successful operations and strong creditor protection measures under defined conditions.
  • Loans with at least 10% repayment of the sanctioned amount now attract a 50% risk weight, encouraging stronger credit discipline.
  • Projects with 5–10% repayment receive a 75% weight, ensuring a graded, risk-sensitive framework promoting infrastructure loan stability.
