RBI reports that Rs 2,000 notes worth just Rs 6,017 crore remain in circulation as of July 31, 2025.

  • 98.31% of Rs 2,000 notes returned since withdrawal announcement on May 19, 2023, says RBI.
  • Value in circulation dropped from Rs 3.56 lakh crore to Rs 6,017 crore over two years.
  • RBI urges the public to deposit or exchange remaining Rs 2,000 notes at banks promptly.
